Christmas in Majorca
In the Island of Majorca during Christmas Eve the families celebrate and dine together. The meeting is happy and festive and then in Palma, it seems that everyone is in the street.
The midnight mass of the magnificent Cathedral is fully occupied, those who arrive late, have to stand up and get cold, because the stoves of the church can only heat a couple of meters …. And then the Song of the Sibyl occupies the space of the Cathedral.
Many are moved by tears in their eyes because in the ancient world, the Sibyls were known as oracles. In Legend we find that the sibyl of Eritrea had already foreseen the birth of Christ, scene that is glorified in the song.
After the mass of the Cathedral, people go to the cafes and bars. They meet with acquaintances and friends. Hot cocoa is taken and a coca of nadal is eaten, while those that go to the nearest bars eat tapas and drink wine, sherry wine or beer.
