Do you want to know more about Mallorca? Don’t miss all the information we bring for you about Port des Canonge, the beautiful port of Banyalbufar, read on!
Port des Canonge is located on the road to the Sierra de Tramuntana (direction to Sóller), located right on the northwest coast of the island of Mallorca and just 4.5 miles from Esporles.
It’s a beautiful port of Banyalbufar hidden among nature. It’s intact and has perfectly preserved its picturesque charm despite the fact that a village has been built around the place.
How to get there?
If you come from Palma de Mallorca, the accessibility by car is extremely easy. You just have to take the road to Esporlas. Continue through the city and shortly after passing La Granja on your left, about 500 meters further on you will reach a crossroads.
Just turn left towards Andratx and you will see that the road is numbered with a C715. After a mile more, it seals to a small road that takes you directly to Port de Canonge.
It’s a somewhat narrow road and there are many curves to go down the 3 miles that will leave you right on the beach. But once there you will have where to park your car right next to the beach. And if there is no space you can also park along the main road as long as you don’t get in the way of other cars.
You can also reach the beach on foot. Just follow the Volta des General route between Banyalbufar and Port des Canonge. With the good signage of the trails you will have no problem to get there.
The beach of Port des Canonge
The port beach is 70 meters long and 20 meters wide. It’s a cove with pebbles and thick gravel covered with posidonia.
There is not too much place to sunbathe since the fishing boats occupy the back of the narrow beach. But it’s undoubtedly an excellent place to spend a quiet day on the beach.
There you can take a refreshing swim; eat at the restaurant on the main road which is quite popular in the area; and go from there to some excursion through the forest of Banyalbufar. It’s a perfect point to start an excellent adventure.
Marine conditions and tourism
It’s a little known port by tourists and only frequented by locals, so the place is a hidden gem of Mallorca.
But marine and underwater conditions are not perfect for anchoring tourist boats or inexperienced navigators. This is due to the strong winds that blow from the northwest and the east.
The small boats, usually, are stranded and well tied to the escars to avoid that the waves push them towards the platform in the rear, full of bushes and pines. If the navigators still want to anchor in the port, they can do so on a piece of land with gravel and rocks. The depth ranges between 3 and 5 meters normally during the day.
Don’t miss out on all the mysteries Mallorca has for you and visit Port des Canonge!
